Thanks for the explanation about this term 'phonemic'. I've never heard of it, ergo thanks for enlightening me. English is aggravating indeed for foreign speakers who have to put up with its irregular pronunciation, spelling, and its inconsistency in diphthongs, not to mention the th sound.
